There is no doubt ministering to a college student is a unique challenge all in itself. What do you feel are some tricks of the trade in ministering to the non-committed yet committed college students?

Hi Matt,

I want to tackle this question you asked. It may take some time to get all my thoughts together. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.

Food is a great way to get college students to come together. I have found after doing college ministry 6 years that food is a very good thing to use as part of your drawing in students.

College students love to talk about current issues going on in the world. A few years ago I created a bible study called "Jesus in the Headlines" it was great! I would pull different articles off the internet and we would talk about them and what the bible said about those particular issues. Just like any teenager, community is also very important to college students, so make sure to always create a space and a feeling that is both welcoming and accepting of all persons. The last thing college students want is to come into a college ministry where they feel as though they have to walk on egg shells around everyone and everything.

I remember being a college student and the most important thing for me was to have "place to belong, an outlet to serve, and an environment to grow in". This is the mission statement that I created about 3 years ago for a college ministry that I was leading. Our students really identified with it because it spoke at the very heart of what each college student is looking for in a ministry.

Hope this helps! Blessings!
